Book Your Private Jet to Helsinki Airport
Located just 20 kilometres from the centre of the Finnish capital, Helsinki Airport is the largest in the country. The airport itself borders the small city of Vantaa, hence the airport’s full name; Helsinki Vantaa Airport. Three runways are available for handling aircraft of all weights and classes and a comprehensive service is available to passengers on private jets to Helsinki.
Flights over Finland: Helsinki Airport
Originally constructed to relieve Helsinki Malmi of its overwhelming volume of flights, Helsinki Airport was built and opened in time for the Summer Olympics in 1952. Since then, the airport capacity was consistently expanded throughout the following decades. Today, the airport serves more than 17 million passengers per year, with no end to this growth in sight. Civil authorities took the decision to expand the airport’s capacity yet again in 2016, with an eye to expanding Helsinki Airport’s terminal areas by 45 per cent and baggage handling capacities by a further 50 per cent. The result of these expansions is an expected capacity of 20 million passengers per year, but it won’t turn the airport into an eyesore. Helsinki Airport, as you might expect from one of the most northerly airports in Europe, is characterised by exquisite Scandinavian design; plenty of wood and glass provide an open and bright atmosphere. The airport’s operator Finavia have made the aesthetics of their airport a priority, going so far as to even furnish the airport with its own art collection full of sculptures, paintings and photographs by Scandinavian and European artists.

Charter Flights from Helsinki
Helsinki Vantaa Airport is one of the largest airports in Northern Europe. The airport offers numerous international connections, but in particular it has established itself as a hub for flights from Europe to Asia. Consequently, many travellers from mainland Europe stopover in Helsinki before nonstop flights to Japan or China. Helsinki is also an attractive location for charter flight operators. From the Finnish capital, many destinations within Scandinavia and further afield in Russia and the Baltic region are within easy reach:
- Helsinki ✈ Jyväskylä (EFJY / JYV): approx. 50 minutes
- Helsinki ✈ Tampere-Pirkkala (EFTP / TMP): approx. 35 minutes
- Helsinki ✈ St Petersburg Pulkovo (ULLI / LED): approx. 50 minutes
- Helsinki ✈ Stockholm Bromma (ESSB / BMA): approx. 1 hour
- Helsinki ✈ Moscow Vnukovo (UUWW / VKO): approx. 1 hour 30 minutes
Business flights from Helsinki to Jyväskylä (JYV) take less than an hour. The 21 kilometres from the airport to the city are best covered with a rental car, which can be picked up directly at the terminal. We recommend booking a rental car in advance, as some operators do not allow for same-day rentals. The flight time from Helsinki to Tampere Pirkkala (TMP) is just over half an hour. From the airport, Tampere is just 15 kilometres away, whilst Pirkkala is only four kilometres away. It’s important to note that Tampere Pirkkala airport is also used by the Finnish air force, so restrictions on take-offs and landings can occur. A flight by private jet from Helsinki-Vantaa to St Petersburg (LED) will last a little less than an hour and the centre of the Russian city is a mere 14 kilometres from the airport. Within Scandinavia, a charter flight from Helsinki to Stockholm-Bromma (BMA) takes about an hour. Again, it’s worth noting that owing to noise pollution regulations, flights to the Swedish capital can only land and take-off within a strictly controlled timeframe. Flights from Helsinki to Moscow Vnukovo (VKO) take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Due to the terrible traffic congestion in the Russian capital, a helicopter transfer from the airport to the city is recommended.
Helsinki Airport hosts more than 17.1 million passengers (2016) every year. The airport’s Business Flight Centre serves as the main hub for passengers flying on private jets to or from Helsinki, while scheduled airline flights are processed in the two main terminals. The centre is open 24 hours a day and offers comfortable and discreet travel. Exclusive services include:
- Separate briefing area for flight crew
- Access to VIP lounge
- Personal support by a VIP coordinator
- Access to meeting rooms
In the Business Flight Centre, a separate area is reserved for larger groups, receptions, or press conferences, namely the VIP President lounge. This area has separate entrances and exits and space for private parking in the immediate vicinity.
The 55 metre (180 ft) sea-level airport can be approached according to both Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrumental Flight Rules (IFR), meaning that flights can land and take off from Helsinki Airport in bad weather. The three runways, which can support aircraft of all classes and weights, allow for the efficient processing and clearing of private at Helsinki Airport:
Runway | Length and width | Surface |
04R/22L | 3,440 m × 60 m | Asphalt |
04L/22R | 3,060 m × 60 m | Asphalt |
15/33 | 2,901 m × 60 m | Asphalt |
Private jets can be chartered from Helsinki Airport around the clock. However, we recommend reserving the following services in advance:
- Handling
- Reservations for hotels and transfers
- VIP services
Transfers for Charter Flight Helsinki Passengers
Helsinki Vantaa Airport is about 20 kilometres outside of the Finnish capital. A transfer by car to the centre will last about 30 minutes. Taxis are available directly in front of the arrival areas of the two main terminals. Alternatively, you can rent a car at the airport. A range of service providers are located in the corridor between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Charter a Flight to Helsinki and Discover the Capital of Finland
Whether for work or for pleasure, the Finnish capital has a lot to offer visitors. For business travellers, Helsinki’s financial district is located in the heart of the city and is home to many banks, companies, and the Finnish stock exchange. In the immediate vicinity is Helsinki’s upmarket shopping district, the Esplanadi. These two parallel boulevards are the perfect place to buy luxurious fashion pieces and souvenirs of your time in Helsinki. On the northern-most boulevard, which is officially called Pohjoisesplanadi, many famous fashion houses have opened boutiques. Between the two parallel streets, the Esplanadi Park offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of shopping. In the evenings, we recommend a visit to the Swedish Theatre, located at the western end of the park.
