Glasgow Airport (GLA) is the second busiest airport in Scotland after Edinburgh Airport. Located about 17 kilometres from the city centre, the airport is easily accessible via the M8 motorway and only a short journey away by car. Servicing more than 100 different flight destinations, Glasgow is an important centre for both domestic and international traffic.

History of Glasgow Airport

The architect Basil Spence drew up the original design plans for the airport and building began in 1961. Glasgow Airport was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1966. To date, the airport has been regularly extended to handle the commercial and private services that operate out of it. This included building a new terminal in response to the high passenger numbers and flight volumes. Terminal T2 was added in 2004. The airport has 64 check-in desks and 36 gates. Some of the gates are also equipped with jet bridges to keep passengers dry when boarding during bad weather.
